Why A Queer Survey? Why Now?
Why Do We Need A Survey?
In our industries, the majority of the people on creative sets usually don't reflect our diverse world. While it's often assumed that creative industries are more progressive, we still have a lot of growing to do.
Queer folks working in photo and video need a community where we can support, teach, and learn from one another. We need to hired for jobs all year round, & not just during Pride or for specifically queer campaigns.
Queer the Lens wants to start the conversation with EVERYONE in the photo and video industry that identifies as LGBTQIAP+. This isn't just about those behind the camera, but about every person on set, and how they are impacted by a space that isn't welcoming, and even unsafe.
So we want to hear from you, whether you are an art director or photo retoucher, photographer, videographer, gaffer, stylist, PA or digitech we need to hear your voice and hear about YOUR experience so that we can start to make things better for all of us
How Will We Use This Data?
Your personal answers will remain private and will not be read individually.
We will be using everyones aggregated answers to better understand broad trends in our communities to get an understanding of what kind of support structures we're missing, and how to help make our industries better, safer, and more inclusive spaces for all of us.
We have been building a network of supporters in academia, large queer advocacy organizations, and beyond to help us interpret and reflect on the data, so we know how to most accurate represent what we learn from our survey and how to help create positive change.
What Can I Do To Help?
The Survey will be open for 3 months to ensure we're able to get as many people possible to respond.
Once you have filled it out, please share it with all of your friends, peers, and organizations so that word can get out. This is very much a grassroots operation and we need everyone's help to get into communities across the US.
Please share via email, social and by word of mouth.
If you have an online platform or event where you would like for us to share about The Survey, please reach out and we'll be happy to find a way to participate.
If you would like to become an ambassador to help share about the Survey in online events, please reach out!
